CAFTCAD Fall Movie Wardrobe Sale

2011-10-05_caftcad_fall_mws

It’s that time of year again and the biannual CAFTCAD Movie Wardrobe Sale is taking place on October 15, 2011. It’s a great opportunity to stop by the sale and look for potential Halloween costumes or pieces to compliment the one you already have planned.

I wrote a blog post about my first experience to the CAFTCAD sale in 2009, check out the post to get a better idea of what to expect, “Hidden treasures to be found at the CAFTCAD Movie Wardrobe Sale.” The prices are pretty reasonable and negotiable with those vendors onsite.

One tip I mention repeatedly to shoppers is to bring cash with you, majority of the vendors don’t take debit or credit card and the ATM machine onsite charges an expensive withdrawal fee – highway robbery. Visit http://caftcad.com/ for more details about this event. Admission is $5 per person.

Date: Saturday, October 15, 2011
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Location: 721 Eastern Avenue, Toronto, Ontario

CAFTCAD Movie Wardrobe Sale & Costume Exhibit

2010-10-21_caftcad_mws__exhibit

The biannual CAFTCAD Movie Wardrobe Sale & Costume Exhibit is happening this weekend and is “the” place to be to score high end, one-of-a-kind and vintage clothing being sold by vendors at discounted prices. Here, you can purchase pieces from vendors such as the Duplaga Fashion Corporation, hand-made silk ascots from Fiammetta, Mercy Label and Plastik Wrap.

CAFTCAD has added a costume exhibit to the sale this year where you’ll have the opportunity to see “over 14 costumes and accessories featured in high profile films and television series. This includes pieces created by Patrick Antosh for Toronto-based director Michael McGowan’s Score: A Hockey Musical.”

I visited CAFTCAD last year and had a great time. One piece of advice is make sure to bring cash as the vendors won’t all have an Interact machine at their booths and the cash machine onsite charges a ridiculous withdrawal fee.

Date: Saturday, October 23, 2010

CAFTCAD movie wardrobe sale

You may recall I attended the CAFTCAD Movie Wardrobe Sale in October. I had a great time browsing all the vintage items and movie props – I also still regret not buying that mink bolero jacket. That aside, CAFTCAD only puts on this sale twice a year so it’s a good time to mark May 1 in your calendar and attend.

Shopping tip: bring cash with you because majority of the vendors don’t take debit or credit card.

Event details: the CAFTCAD Movies Wardrobe Sale is back again. We are delighted to have over 40 vendors including members and industry types who will be selling contemporary and vintage clothing, and accessories used in local film and television productions, fabric, handcrafted goods, dead stock, samples, wardrobe supplies and more!

Hidden treasures to be found at the CAFTCAD Movie Wardrobe Sale

For all of you treasure hunters, lovers of vintage clothing and bargain shoppers, the CAFTCAD Movie Wardrobe Sale is a hidden gem of fabulous finds.

CAFTCAD is a non-profit and non-partisan organization that provides its members (costume designers and artisans) with discussion forums, education and professional networking opportunities. The Movie Wardrobe Sale is held twice a year (fall and summer) allowing shoppers the opportunity to purchase high quality and unique fashion items used in Toronto-based film and television shoots.

I spent a good two hours at the Movie Wardrobe Sale last Saturday wandering the aisles, snapping pictures, sorting through clothing racks and trying on vintage garments; some for fun because Halloween was several days away, and some for making serious additions to my closet.

There were over 30 vendors at the Movie Wardrobe Sale, all were very friendly and the prices for their clothing negotiable.

The one that got away: a dark brown, bolero style, mink jacket found at Eve English’s Vintage booth. I didn’t buy it. Yes, I can hear the fashion gods chastising me from above and I’m sure for punishment another more expensive fur jacket will present itself (le sigh).

A friend sent over this invite to attend the Canadian Alliance of Film & Television Costume Arts & Design (CAFTCAD) Movie Wardrobe Sale. I always wanted to attend an event like this, but never know when or where it takes place. Therefore, when this invite landed in my inbox I immediately inked it into my calendar – there must be some divine intervention with this sale timed with LG Fashion Week.

Event description: the CAFTCAD is giving shoppers the opportunity to purchase a wide range of high quality and unique fashion items used in several Toronto-based film and television shoots. This biannual sale will give shoppers the chance to buy items made by costume designers for several productions, including Resident Evil: Afterlife, Survival of the Dead, Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town and Ginger Snaps III: The Beginning.

Last year more than 1,400 people flocked to the CAFTCAD’s Movie Wardrobe Sales during both the summer and fall events. It’s highly advised shoppers line up early, as eager bargain hunters work quickly to grab the most sought after treasures this event has to offer.
