We’re in mid-August and the temperature feels like fall has arrived early; this means it’s time to shop for more shoes! Excuse me while I contain my bubbling excitement.
However, before you max out your credit card to buy those expensive designer heels, InStyle and Nine West have joined forces for a second time to create a capsule collection of footwear with runway and pocket book appeal. The InStyle for Nine West collection offers more than 10 styles of glorious shoes that will put instant pep in your step for fall, ranging in price from $100-$175.
Out of the collection my favourite pair is the Jaiden, a pointy-toe heel with lace and cut-out details, and a 9 cm (3.5 inch) heel that makes it perfect to wear in the office or for a girls night out on the weekend. It’s available in four styles, burgundy, black suede and black calf hair, however, the navy blue is my absolute favourite. Buy online.
When I think of headphones the first thing which comes to mind are a pair of old school ones my dad owned in the 80s. They produced big sound but were heavy and messed up my hair like nobody’s business; definitely not compatible with my burgeoning fashion tendencies and newly pierce ears. Ouch! Continue reading
September is only a few weeks away, which in the fashion world, means it’s time to unleash your bank account because a whole lot of shopping will be goin’ on when new clothes and shoes hit the stores. For example, the new Converse Chuck Taylor Star Missoni collection will have you whipping out your credit card like it’s on fire and make your feet do a happy when you lay your eyes on this colourful collaboration, which features the Italian fashion house’s iconic zig zag motifs. Do you feel that all eyes have been on you lately or that someone is watching your every move? No, I’m not referring to high-tech government surveillance or Edward Snowden conspiracies but the Oh Roy! sandal by French footwear designer Pierre Hardy.
When I first saw this creation I wasn’t quite sure what to make of it. Wearing a heel with a massive eye ball design doesn’t make me want to whip out my credit card with Superman-like speed, but as I looked at I realized here is a wearable work of art that seeks to make fashion fun and eye catching – pun intended – because, as human beings, we get too caught up in the seriousness of the rat race we call life. Very often we forget to let loose and have fun, and fashion (particularly this shoe) is an expression of how you can let loose and not take yourself too seriously. Plus, if you were to don the Oh Roy! with a sleek fitting black dress or ripped boyfriend jeans all eyes will be on you and your shoes. Buy online.
I’ve been told by my family and friends that I’m a very hard person to shop for. Whatever would give them that clue is beyond me; maybe it has to do with the fact that I’m a fashion blogger who has discerning taste in clothes and shoes? Possibly. Continue reading
A very good friend of mine is getting married in a week and several days ago I was in desperate need of a new shoe; a simple, black strappy sandal to be exact. After an exhausted online search of my favourite shoe sites I found nothing that would go with the dress I’m planning to wear for the nuptials that was: a) within my budget and b) looked good – hashtag #FashionProblems.
So what does a shoeaholic do when faced with a dilemma like this with only days to find and break in a new shoe? You hit the mall and head to your favourite shoe stores and pray for a miracle. My first stop was to Hudson’s Bay Queen Street store. I was lucky that my shoe guy Mike was working that day and within seconds he pointed me to this exquisite Lolita sandal by Brazilian shoe designer Alexandre Birman.
The Lolita sandal is made from cashmere suede and designed with two simple tie-front details at the toe and ankle. The minimalist look of this sandal makes it the perfect shoe that would complement any outfit from ripped boyfriend jeans to the red silk dress I’ll be wearing at my friend’s wedding – more on that in a few weeks. Canadian men’s wear brand Sully Wong and non-profit foundation ONEXONE have recently come together to release the ONEXONE HOPE sneaker. This limited edition unisex shoe is a creative and charitable collaboration which aims to raise funds for the ONEXONE Paediatric Wing in Hospital Mirebalis in Haiti, where 50 percent of the sale proceeds from this sneaker will be donated. I have an Instagram addiction and find myself lost in the endless vortex of pictures the app’s 200 million users post every second. While I enjoy using the app it can be a huge time waster; when I should be writing or doing something semi-productive I end up going through my Instagram feed and before I know it an hour has come and gone like a pair of designer shoes on sale.
However, one fateful day, my very stylish friend Aya McMillian posted her latest shoe purchase on Instagram which caused my heart to skip a beat. She managed to get a hold of the black and white, lambskin leather espadrilles from Chanel’s spring 2014 collection – they are to die for!
I have champagne wishes and Chanel dreams, which means said espadrilles from the French fashion house are way out of my budget. However, if your pocket book can handle it, I’ve been told the black and white pair can be bought in store or you can get the tan version from Aveune K online. But if you’re a baller on a budget (like me), then Jeffrey Campbell’s Atha espadrilles come close to replicating dreams of said Chanel shoes. Buy online.
Hot days cool nights… no, I’m not talking about Toronto’s recent summer weather but the theme of a photo shoot I, and some of the nation’s top fashion bloggers, did with eLUXE and Samsung to promote the tech company’s Samsung GALAXY S5. Continue reading
In the middle of July you must think me crazy to start looking for fall and winter shoes to wear, but like any good shoeaholic I’m always on the hunt for shiny and new things to go on my feet, similar to J.Lo’s penchant for hot young men.
While browsing through The September I came across this stunning ankle boot by Freda Salvador, a new brand I’ve never heard of before. Launched in 2012, the company is based in sunny California and is run by Cristina Palomo-Nelson and Megan Papay who create edgy contemporary shoes built for – wait for it - walkability. Can we all say “Amen!”
I’m absolutely in love with the company’s Star Ankle Boot with its metal details and removable chain, and will be putting this on my wish list for the coming fall season. And if this metallic grey number doesn’t spur you to whip out your credit card then you can get it in the ever-popular black leather version. Buy online.
