Mule mule mule! I’m not talking about the four-legged kind but one of the hottest footwear trends for the next few seasons.
When I think of the mule images which pop into my head is that of a chucky heel with an equally thick upper lacking in elegance and versatility. However, shoe designers have reinterpreted this style turning out sexy, sleek and refined silhouettes that have this fashion blogger paying very close attention with her credit card.
To ease you into this new style I found an affordable mule from one of my favourite online stores – Zara – which costs only $99.90. You can’t go wrong with that price!
However, if you need a little more persuasion to slip your foot into the mule then consider Manolo Blahnik’s opinion of this style of the moment. He penned an article for the first issue of PORTER magazine, Net-a-Porter’s print publication, where he said “To me, the mule is the most exquisite little shoe… The backless design requires more balance and poise. Even the sound they make is seductive. That flirtatious little click clack, tip tap.” Buy online.
How many times have you looked into your closet to pick out a pair of shoes to match with an outfit only to realize that nothing goes? I have this dilemma often and wish I had a fairy godmother who could magically appear and make me a pair of shoes to go with a tie-dyed, suede VAWK dress that’s been sitting in my closest for nearly two years. Um, hello! Where did this sexy black and white, pointy flat come from? I’ll give you one hint: it’s by a Canadian label which sells its wears in a supermarket. If you guessed Joe Fresh then you’re spot on or should I say stripe on!
This is a great all around flat guaranteed to punch up the style quotient of your spring wardrobe. For an affordable $59 you’ll get more than your money’s worth; if you wear the shoe just five times, the cost per wear works out to approximately $13.34 (includes tax). Buy online.
Second time is a charm! If you like British label Ostwald Helgason’s and ALDO’s first ALDO RISE collaboration then you have another one coming at you for fall/winter 2014 consisting, again, of footwear and handbags. Yippee! Continue reading →
I have jungle fever and it’s not the tropical kind; it’s the footwear type of illness, and once you feast your eyes on this show-stopping giraffe-print heel by Mulberry you’ll hope that I’m contagious.
Prints can be, at times, a challenging item to wear or incorporate into your wardrobe if you’re not accustomed to them. I relate it to the act of bungee jumping; you want to try it out and show your courageous spirit, but are afraid that the rope will snap ending in death or, in this case, an epic fashion disaster.
So what’s a girl to do? I always suggest easing yourself into wearing prints and graphic patterns. Start out with accessories such handbags and, my favourite, shoes and then pair it with basics like blue jeans and a white shirt. The classic almond toe design of this Mulberry shoe is timeless and offers enough punch of colour and graphic interest that no other stand-out accessory is required. Buy online.
Fitness is not a topic I write about on this blog and the closest I’ve come to covering it is featuring the occasional athletic shoe. However, if you’ve been following me online for the past few years (Twitter and Instagram), you know I have a love for yoga and from time to time make it to the gym to pump iron, because one can’t expect to fit into a skin tight leather dress without putting your body through its paces. For the past several weeks I’ve been seeing red; as in red hearts, red teddy bears and red roses. You know I’m referring to February 14th, Valentine’s Day; the day when couples celebrate and show their love to the world. Blah, blah, blah!
But what can single ladies, like me, do when we don’t have a significant other to share this time with and have to endure the overwhelming stench of romance in the air? I can tell you what my solution is – develop a Berlin Wall type of numbness to Valentine’s Day and treat thy self to shoes! Continue reading →
Another Friday and another to-die-for shoe. Instead of featuring a high heel, wedge or stiletto I’ve chosen a sneaker today. Highly unusual for my weekly entry, I know, but I like to mix things up on the blog every now and again, and why not feature an athletic shoe especially when it looks like this!
What I love about the Mother or Pearl + Jim Lambie shoe is the floral and black stripe prints; the flowers are soft and feminine while the thick black lines are hard and masculine, they contrast each other in beautiful ways. Throw in black leather piping along the vamp and tongue of the shoe and the design has given itself serious street cred. Holla! Buy online.
You love fashion, accessories and colourful prints, and the thought of bringing these things together make your style senses tingle. This coming spring American footwear retailer TOMS and iconic potter/designer Jonathan Adler is bringing you the TOMS x Jonathan Adler Spring 2014 shoe and eyewear collection. Continue reading →
There’s something about a metallic shoe that will stop me dead in my tracks and put me into a semi-catatonic state. Maybe it’s the shiny quality of the material it’s fashioned from or the precious metal colours of gold, silver and bronze that have made it such a valuable symbol of commodity. In any case, I can’t help but stop, look, stare and, in some cases, slip said shoe onto my foot. Just ’cause.
I came across the YADOVEN on Call It Spring’s website and was mesmerized by the holographic nature of this silver heel. The outer is composed from a synthetic material which gives it a multi-colour effect with shades of blue, purple, green and pink appearing on its surface. The design is simple and uncomplicated with a single ankle strap, cut-out sides and covered, pointy toe.
The futuristic nature of this shoe is eye catching and would amp up any outfit this coming spring and summer. Buy online.
