Besides shoes and shopping one of the other great loves in my life is yoga. I started yoga on a complete whim; my sister told me Lululemon was opening a store in a nearby mall and that they offered free yoga classes. We went and loved it so much that attending these classes became a weekly Sunday morning ritual. More than six years later I’m still practicing, but now it’s in a yoga studio several times a week which I call my second home.
For the past two years I’ve been documenting my yoga practice and progress on Instagram; forward bends, back bends, binds, headstands and twists – terms for various types of yoga poses. It wasn’t until recently that I had the opportunity to showcase my love for it with a stylish twist, pun intended. My friend and style expert Afiya Francisco, who also run an amazing blog and can be found on TV, asked me to take part in an online magazine she was spearheading called The Style Guide. The first issue would be dubbed ‘Clean Slate’, a focus on minimalism and would feature some of the fashion industry’s most influential ladies, such as Loulou magazine’s Shopping Editor Liv Judd, Fashion Writer and Editor Aya McMillan, and moi!
Afiya asked me to take on part of the healthy living section by creating a sequence of yoga poses, which I was totally excited to do. I wore my much-loved yoga gear and decided on seven poses, some of my favourite asanas, which encourages lengthening and stretching of the body, as well as balance. Sounds interesting?
