On April 29th I’m taking part in TOMS’ seventh annual One Day Without Shoes event.
Known for its One for One business model – for every pair of TOMS shoes purchased, TOMS provides a new pair of new shoes to children in need – One Day Without Shoes event asks people around the world to go without shoes; to take a ‘barefoot break’ to raise awareness about children’s health education.
The movement wants to bring attention to three important issues affecting children’s development around the world – health, education and empowerment. Millions of kids live daily without proper footwear exposing them to infection, injury and diseases such as podoconiosis. By providing children with footwear their feet are not only protected but their engagement and involvement at school and in their communities increases.
To date, TOMS has given more than 10 million pairs of new shoes to children in need in 60 countries around the world. Taking a few minutes to expose your toes for this event is a small but powerful action you can do to show your support.
Tomorrow, take a ‘barefoot break’ for a few minutes and share photos of your feet sans shoes on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook using hashtags #withoutshoes and #TOMSCanada.
