If you were to ask me who makes the most fantastical and thought provoking shoes my response would be Dutch fashion designer Iris van Herpen in collaboration with United Nude. These two have a long history of working together and producing some of the most creative and extreme footwear I’ve ever seen over the four years I’ve been fashion blogging.
During Paris Fashion Week, van Herpen unveiled her latest haute couture collection for fall/winter 2014 taking inspiration from the forces of nature and titled it Wilderness Embodied. Her designs are works of art made from latex and laser cut micro fibers, and the shoes seem to step right out of a science fiction novel.
Working with United Nude’s Creative Director and Founder, Rem D Koolhass, and 3D printing company Stratasys, ”the shoes were inspired by the dramatic banyan tree and looked as if they were naturally grown, rather than digitally created.”
It’s not everyday you see a pair of shoes shaped like the roots of a intergalactic banyan tree, so if you’re interested in slipping your feet into these heels then make sure to visit United Nude’s website often. The company has a history of making its design collaborations available for purchase to the public and the chances of you adding these wild creations to your closet is quite good.
